INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

  1. Giornale degli Economisti is a fully refereed four-monthly journal. It publishes research papers that analyse policy issues relevant for the Italian economy. It also publishes reviews of recent theoretical and empirical literature. Both Research and Survey papers must be in English.

  2. Papers for publication should be sent to:

    Direzione Giornale degli Economisti
    Alla c.a Dott.ssa Melissa Fiorucci
    Via Guglielmo Röntgen
    20136 Milan - Italy
    or via e-mail to: gde@unibocconi.it

Submission of a paper will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished material and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. Upon acceptance of an article, author(s) will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the Università Commerciale “Luigi Bocconi”.

  3. Accepted articles should be submitted as electronic manuscripts via e-mail. Only Microsoft Word files can be properly processed; Scientific Word is accepted only if all mathematical sections are saved as pict. Adobe Acrobat files need to be converted using procedures that, unfortunately, lose all the features of text. Detailed instructions on the format of the files will be given to the authors of accepted papers.

  4. Manuscripts submitted must be one-sided and single spaced. Authors should avoid splitting words over two lines. The main text, with footnotes appearing at the bottom of the pages, should be followed by references, appendix, tables and figures (for more details concerning illustrations see paragraph 7). Sections and subsections must be given a title and be numbered consecutively. All pages, footnotes, formulas, tables and figures must also follow their own numbering.

  5. The first page of a manuscript must contain the following information: (i) the title; (ii) the name(s) of the author(s); (iii) an abstract of no more than 100 words written in English; (iv) JEL classification codes; (v) keywords; (vi) a footnote with the name(s) of the author(s) and institutional affiliation(s), acknowledgements and information on grants received, as well as the name, address, telephone, fax and e-mail of one of the authors. Items (ii) and (vi) will be removed from the copies used in the blind refereeing stage of editorial evaluation; the author(s)’s identity must not be revealed elsewhere in the paper.

  6. Authors are also kindly requested to comply in detail with the following, especially as regards the word order, the use of capital letters, types and punctuation.
References in the main text should specify the author and the year of publication, e.g. “Lucas (1994) argues that...”. When there is more than one author, their names should be separated by a dash, e.g. “Alesina - Hausmann (1996) believe that...”.
    In the reference list:
For monographs: GROSSMAN G.M. - HELPMAN E. (1991), Innovation and Growth in the Global Economy, Cambridge, Ma, MIT Press.
For contributions to collective works: BARON D. (1989), “Design of regulatory mechanisms and institutions”, in Handbook of Industrial Organization, ed. by R. Schmalensee - R. Willig, Amsterdam, North-Holland, vol. 2, pp. 1347-1444.
For periodicals: BLINDER A. (1986), “Can the production smoothing model of inventories be saved?”, Quarterly Journal of Economics, vol. 101, pp. 431-453.

  7. Illustrations will be reproduced electronically (authors are kindly requested to use FreeHand, CorelDraw or Illustrator files) or photographically from the originals sup- plied by the authors. Illustrations must be provided in triplicate (one high contrast original and two photocopies). Moreover, when the software used allows it, tables and figures should already be inserted in their final position in the main text.

  8. Any manuscript that does not conform to the above instructions can be returned for the necessary revision before consideration. Page proofs will be sent to the corre sponding author. Proofs should be corrected carefully; the responsibility for detecting errors lies with the authors. Corrections should be restricted to instances in which the proof is at variance with the manuscript. Extensive alterations will be charged. Thirty reprints of each published article will be supplied free of charge to the corresponding author.
